Among the many other jobs today, including seeing a rather grumpy Mr bus up the post office ;D, I did manage to make up my Idle screw tool using an old 4mm Socket with a 1/4 drive, and a 3mm Allen key from Poundland the two components have now been Brazed together to form an extra long reach socketed key, which is required to reach the idle screw mounted deep inside the Air flow sensor plate section of of the fuel distributor unit. P.S. Karl, I do understand, if I was just about to go to work for the day, at that time of the afternoon, 1/ if I ran into me, I would be in rather a hurry to leave 2/ and the thought of making Weetabix for a living, would also get me very mad, as that really [glow=red,2,300]takes the biscuit[/glow]. ;D

Again I had a look at the car for about an hour this afternoon. Unfortunately as I suspected the Idle/Co2 screw had seized up, so after several attempts to get it to move, I no option but to take the whole fooking lot off the bloody car once again So once again the metering head and airflow sensor plate are all in bits, and the sensor plate unit has now been totally stripped down to gain access to the screw. I've now left the offending parts soaking in penetrating oil to free them up, as again its fuel residue which has caused the problem. So Steve sorry m8 No ride in Unkie Nige's car yet, as its two steps back, followed but about another twenty even further backwards.

Right I've now manage too free off the Idle screw, so all I've now got to do is put the thing back together and set it all up correctly so the sensor plate fits into the air cone in the correct position which is why I didn't want to take the whole thing to bits in the first place, Oh well ho hum, life a bitch etc Oh, then setup the screw so its approximately in the right place for tick over, then run the engine, and adjust the idle mixture, and then I'm back to where I was at the weekend. while hoping and praying that it all still works correctly, after disturbing everything Yet!!!!! again.

A Holy Joe ;D Me !!!!!!!!!, no I'm not a U.S. Army Chaplin thank you Steve Any Praying, will be to the god of dubs no one else Haven't done anything to our dub personally but Hector has been at DG's to have a little service. He's been there since Wed and we won't get him back till tomorrow as there were a few little bits to sort out. You know how these little bits add up!! So any praying, that the bill won't be too massive, would be very much appreciated. Ta muchly ;D

Right airflow sensor plate assembly is now all back together and functioning correctly. ;D These are a right pain to build back up again, due to the parts having very fine tolerances, and the critical alignment require for the sensor plate, which has about a 1.0mm gap, all the way around the plate when its fitted into the air cone, and so needs final adjustment when the locking bolt the counter weight has been fitted and tightened up. However having now service this part of the fuel distributor I can say, that the plate moves with far less resistance, in fact none whatsoever, so maybe this part of the unit also needed servicing anyway, the Idle screw now move freely up and down to allow for the correct adjustment, so fingers crossed I'll put it all back on the car YET-A-BLOODY-AGAIN, and it all still works

Right today, I've taken some readings off the Idle screw, and the piston in the metering head. As I suspected someone in the past has turned the Idle screw to far in, thus resulting in it doing sweet F.A. This may have been in attempt to lower the CO2 levels for the MOT, while the car was running with the wrong gasket set, and incorrect Distributor setup. So in conclusion, the idle screw was about a 1/4 of an inch beyond the maximum travel of the Piston, and thus with all the changes that I've made, this has shown up in the form of an overly lean fuel mixture. The reason being that the amount of fuel that was getting through was little or nothing, so no idle rev's. Plus the higher system pressure was pushing the piston beyond its normal length of travel thus totally shutting off the fuel supply at idle, and creating a pressure lock, in the top of the metering head as a result. So all my problems have been down to some idiot with a 3mm Allen key, that didn't know when to stop turning a screw clockwise

Right everything is now back on the car, and guess what !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It all works properly at blooming last ;D So the CO2/idle mixture screw was the main issue with the system all along, I'm sure this was the underlying problem, which in turn has cause all the other issue's So I can't do much more today, until the engines cooled down, then I go round and check that all the seals and gaskets are tight. Next, is timing check, MOT, Road tax etc etc
