How do i get one of those cool avatar thingies?

first you'll want a photobucket account, sort that out, then load your pic or graphic up in there, then you modify your profile on here to add it, sounds simple huh, or if you ask karl nicely i think he can load one ofr you?

this explains posting up pics, which is the same, just you do it in your profile instead.
