Yes i have checked the coolant level All is ok when driven above 30/40mph but as soon as i slow down the temperature rises very very quickly. So i dont know much about these things but i am thinking that it may be a knackered water pump and when driving at speed the engine is being cooled by air flow and higher rpm will be forcing water around but at low speed no cool air or water getting around the engine. So am i barking up the right tree If so is it an easy job to sort out yourself. All suggestions and welcome.

OK i have done as you said conna, the fan came on when i put 12volts direct to it So i was thinking as you first said it will be the rad switch, however i have run it up to temperature again just to see what happend and only the two smaller rubber pipes got hot all the way to the front. 1 of the thicker ones is hot around the engine bay but once it heads to the front its cold, the other thicker one is only hotish until around that black valve thing then is cold all the way to the rad. Is this normal Ran out of time to carry on with it today will have another bash at it on Thursday.

The rad may be full of sh!t so try flushing it, what is the valve for? it could be past it, if the engine is up to hot stop the van (leave engine running) see if fan is on. if not, switch is probably shot. i guess you could test the switch with a continuity tester and a pan of water on a stove, stick a thermometer in it and bring to the boil, at a pre-determined temp the impedence will drop. Or just buy a new one. same for the thermostat if it dont seem to be working, shove it in a pan of water. Take it easy, best of luck. steve
