Oh dear that happened to my bug a few weeks ago, when we tried to wire in the cd player, we got lights working then the break lights and number plate light wouldnt work, Andy just had to keep fiddling with the wires until they came back on, it was a bad earth or summat like that, not that im teckie by a long chalk, I Just have to rely on hubbys patience in fixing these lil probs. Sorry i cant be more specific than that

check all the fuses, on the 66 the indicators and brakes go through one fuse. on a later/earlier one it will no doubt be diffenrt be methodical. check simple things first. an earth problem at the back would cause all rear lights to fail or be erratic, like going dim when others are turned on. COuld be many things.... Where are you? i could pop over if you like? s

If your bug has the proverbial "birds nest" of botched wiring your really best to start a fresh. Your probably losing loads of amps in all the mess.
