Fast 65 put this link on the SCD, and as theres been a lot of talk about welding things together here's the link. www.mig-welding.co.uk/Just read some of the other stuff, sanding blasting, spraying etc, and he's not so hot on these subjects

In a word HEAT or rather too much of it I.E. metal becomes molten beyond the point of solidity, and then gravity take over ;D holes then appears, with blobs of metal around the edges Why well thats like most things in life, there more then one reason, 1/ welding rod/wire to large for the thickness of steel 2/ amperage set too high on the wielder (if electric arc or Mig) or tip size too big if Oxy/Acetylene Gas 3/ torch held at the wrong angle again applies to Mig and especially Oxy/Acetylene Gas 4/ Not welding along the joint fast enough in time with the wire feed, or filler rod. Again coupled to to high an amperage settings 5/ lack of experience welding that gauge steel. I'm sure theres more and if so Steve 66 will more then likely ad them on to this post.

As too finding holes Hayley, if you want to get really scared as how much of your Beetle is not actually sold steel anymore but just rust, try having it shoot blast That will findout every inch of rotton metal from small pin holes to ones you can hand through

pin holes wont fail the MOT. why would i want to find those!
