i would start with the running gear and engine so you can still run about to show etc this year if you start on the body you wont go anyware this year.

If your going to do a "Running Restoration"
Then
1/ Mechanicals and wiring
2/ Welding and bodywork Prep
3/ Paintwork
4/ Window rubbers, interior trim and carpeting.
Well thst how I'd go about it anyway ;D

hey peeps thanks for advice. I shall get clive booked in at Dgs i think and get the smoke problem sorted . When it comes to restoring can anyone recomend a place that will lower, sort body work and respray etc or is it more of a case of taking it to various individuals???

Most body shops will do panel replacement but if you need chassis work doing its best to go to a proper quailified welder. I am currently having all chassis work and panels replaced by a good qualified welder he will also be doing the lowering work and fitting a new narrow adjustable beam. When he is finished the van will go off the body shop for final body prep and paint. Hope this helps

Having just noted what Marks posted about chassis work. Please note if your going to need or want to weld the chassis, plus replace major panels, its best practice to do the chassis first, then the repaired and strengthened chassis frame acts as a jig for all you new panels while there welded, which helps to reduce the chance of a bad fit or stress cracks in your new panel work, at a latter date.
