Just a reminder folks the photo card which is part of the newer style driving licenses, has only a 7-10 year life span you have to re-new this at a cost of £17.50, if you don't and you get stopped by Mr plod there'll fine you £1000's for driving without a valid license, which is bollox of course, however as photo card is now part of the license you have too renew the photo card when it expires or otherwise you lose your entitlement to drive, and obviously by having an out of date picture of yourself in you wallet, you'll have a nervous breakdown, and thus revert to a child until you've renew the photo-card Yet another con!, photo I.D. cards via the back door, and then charge for the privilege every ten years, but just don't bother telling Joe public at the time the scheme is introduced, that way you can fine peeps even more CA$H and make the whole scheme a tax cash cow.

Thanks Nige
I've just checked mine and there is only 8 years 9 months between the valid from and valid to. Though on the back it says its valid for 52 years.
Must put a reminder to update it later this year.

Well seeing as i'm not a terrorist, paedo, rapist or other sick member of society i personally don't have an issue with carrying an I.D. card or any other form of identification and i fail to see the argument regarding renewing it or are you gifted with never aging looks. Of course it has to be renewed, it's a picture I.D. that is designed to be an accurate form of identification what is the point of having a photo I.D. if it is a picture of you taken 20 years ago that looks nothing like you. Far to many liberal minded, mamby pamby 'do gooders' in this country, if you have nothing to be ashamed of or nothing to hide you shouldn't worry about having to carry one, I know i'd be more than happy to if it meant just one more sick b@@@@@d off the street

I have to renew my licence every three years for medical reasons but I'm not asked to send a new photo each time.....in fact the photo thats on it looks to be from circa 1997!!! judging by the style of outfit and glasses!! One of the few perks of being diabetic means that I don't have to pay either. Next time I will take the time to update the photo too, but as they keep issuing me a new valid licence and photo card I think I'm within the law. ;D

I have big misgivings about the national I.D. card scheme for reason I can't go into on here but regarding the photo I.D. for your driving license well, what gets me is the point that 1/ this was never publicised at the time the license was introduced, leaving it open to a general mis-understanding, considering the old paper license, did not need to be re-new until you were 70 years old. 2/ that as a result you could be fined for not having a valid license on a point of technical legality, which was not made clear at the time, and is not common knowledge. I realise under the law ignorance is no defence, however I'm sure this can apply two both parties in this case.

I know what you mean Nige.
I had no idea and nor did hubby about the ten year renewal thing until I read a similar thread on VZi.

Yep, why again should we have to pay for it!
If they can pay teachers for staying at home just case there is a bit of snow on the floor at me the tax payers cost, Then they can swollow the cost of having a machine put a new photo of me on a bit of plastic!

YEAH stupid teachers!!! I think the issue is that it was advertised as NOT being an ID scheme, of course it is in a way but the government decided it was a better idea and, like it has been said, it just seems like another (albeit small) tax. The national ID card thing is a whole differnt kettle of fish things like unification of all exsisting security and information services would be a better way of going about ridding the country of the aformentioned cases!
