i have been told you don't need a reverse lamp to pass an MOT and also its not a legal requirement to have one. i just wondered if this applied to all cars or ones made before a particular year?

Dont know about reverse light but... But when I got my van it had no seatbelts - MOT man said as they were not fitted originally they were not needed to pass the MOT. Maybe this is the same for reverse light - if it wasnt fitted originally then its not needed for the MOT now??? Could well be wrong so worth seeing if any one else knows.

There's no reference to reverse lights in the MOT test criteria... see link... www.ukmot.com/manual.aspAlso, it isn't vehicle age specific, the reversing light on Louise's 2001MY Ka has a wiring fault and hasn't worked for 3~ish years... they just make note of it in the advisories.

If i remember right if they were not fitted before 1964 then they dont have to be in the car, if they are there tho they need to be in working order ( sorry this for seat belts ) Dont have to have reversing lights
