Newquay May 2009

Just a few pics to show that we did eventually make it to Newquay.

When we finally got to Porth and put up the tent, the KUDC mob thought breakfast would be a good start to the day (and in some cases a free second one)



After breakie, we went into Newquay and played crazy golf



While we waited for the kids to finish playing on the train we relaxed in the sun/shade







Then we went to the boating lake where it was kayak vs row boat

After a gorgeous afternoon with Mandy and Stred it was time for them to leave


Spenny tried to cheer us up by booking the most nerve wrecking way to get to the fort for dinner



To relax before trying to sleep in the storm we played skip-bo

Stred and Mandy had taken the sun with them, so to help cheer ourselves up on a wet windy morning we went to Fifteen for breakfast.







What else was there to do on such a rainy day, but to see Newquay's TUNNEL THROUGH TIME (insert sound effects here Lucy)



and shopping of course ;D

When we got back to camp, Looby had a text from Parklife saying it was the Newquay Dub club meet in the pub opposite our camp, so we went....
but they were very clicky, got a couple of 'alright's

but it was the same night as the football, so in our little spot we ending up having a lot of fun (ahem noise)

We discovered the pub lent out board games, so after an uneventful round of cluedo, we ended up playing hungry hippos and jenga...

The next day TJ and I went to Perranporth, but again Mandy was keeping the sunshine as it was misty and muggy



We did spot a random shop that had everything and anything in it



Even advertising that randy rabbit and friends were on sale!!!!!!

TJ and I went back to camp to check the tent hadn't blown away.
TJ then decided to drive into Newquay to meet Spencer, Caroline and Alex (who had walked along the coastline) for dinner at the Red Lion.

On the way we spotted a sign for California bowl and went there after dinner

Our last full day at Newquay....

The Sunshine came back



We went to the aquarium





Then back to the boating lake

Where it was Pedalo vs Kayak





We decided that as it was our finally night, we would go to a restaurant for dinner



When we got back we walked along the beach and tried to watch the sunset

Tuesday morning - after a surprisingly warm and comfortable night in Stred and Mand's awning, and after Toughjeans and Vicky had arrived, we took a stroll across Porth beach to go to the beach cafe for breakfast...







Spenny and Steve struggling with their (free) second fry-up, after the kitchen sent our order out twice!!



After brekkie, we headed for the crazy golf course, where Vicky demonstrated the art of 'the hoover' technique for lining up the shots...that was until she hit her ball a little too hard, and her ball disappeared into a hedge! ;D









We then headed to the cafe for a cool refreshing drink, and that is where the 'children' of the group spotted the little train, and whined until they were allowed a go.... ;D





We then headed off to the boating lake...









After drinks (and a random sticky toffee pudding for Steve) in the lakeside cafe, we headed back to camp, where Stred and Mand packed some of their stuff into our car, ready for the journey home.

Wednesday - and we woke to horrible rain and wind....so we headed to 'fifteen' for breakfast...









It was then off to the 'Tunnelllllllls Throuuuuuuugh Tiiiiiiimmmmmme!'...now this place is pure class!!













The models were so realistic - just look how scared our lot are of this giant!! ;D





















We saw this sign outside one exhibition....



...and realised it must be our two smokers - Steve on the left, and Andy on the right...



And Spenny took a bit of a shine for the 'Linda Lusardi' lookalike in the low cut top...





And finally - the topless mermaid (that photobucket doesn't approve of), so I've had to censor her!!



We then did a bit of shopping in Newquay, where I spotted this in one of the shops, and thought I'd take a picture for Nige...

On Thursday, Spenny, Caroline and Alex decided to take advantage fo the low tide, and walk to Newquay along the coast, through all the bays.

Meanwhile, Steve, Vicky, Andy and I went for breakfast at the beach cafe, passing these holiday apartments on our way...we just loved the name!!



Steve and Vicky then headed off into Perranporth for the day, whilst Andy and I went to the zoo...

Despite the fact that we saw lots of animals...I only seem to have taken photos of penguins and peacocks!











Like Vicky said - later on we met up with everyone for a meal, then went bowling.

Friday - drove into Newquay, and wandered down to Towan Beach to visit the aquarium...





We then went back tothe boating lake - where I decided to have a go in the Kayak with the boys.

We went back to camp and chilled there for a while, then went out for a lovely meal at an Italian restaurant in town.

We had a brilliant week - despite all our troubles with getting there (and back!!).

Roll on next year - when hopefully, we can do it all over again!!
