Just put in my rebuilt engine after an exhaust valve dropped and bedded itself in one of the pistons The engine starts up and runs OK, but this evening it started idling high. I have not done any tuning before, and don't want to brick my new engine, could anyone give me hand one evening? It is a 1500 single port with dual Kadron 40 carbs, not sure if it is timing, the carbs or both that need adjusting. Happy to chuck a few quid for ya trouble , I am in Kettering. Maybe too much to ask, but would LUV to make bugjam at the weekend!

have you tried setting the timing statically? may not do anything but you can start from there,or do you have a timming light?, not really an expert, if you twiddle with your carbs make sure you adjust them the same, not sure about kadrons but i know theres not actually that much adjustment on dellorto's/ webers without the use of jets and a rolling road. oh and your cable isn't stuck is it? as in it don't return ? just wondered as you said 'this evening' as if it idled OK at some point?

Yeh the timing was OK after I fitted the engine, took it out for a run, and adjusted the fan belt tension as it was a bit tight. Fired it up again and found it was idling at about 1500 RPM, checked the throttle cabled and it is not jammed, and the link between the carbs is free. Checked with timing light after the install at it was about 7.5 deg before TDC, but with the higher idle, the timing is off. Not sure about adjusting it was it was OK, so not sure if it is the timing I will fire it up again tomorrow and see if same from cold, I presume reducing the belt tension would not affect idle?

Tightened up the fan belt and it now seems to idle better, so think OK. Would be great if someone taking a look at the carb setup at some point, if anyone is able to help out............should be OK to get me to Bugjam though ;-)

cool glad you got somewhere, don't think the tension will have any kind of effect, least not as far as i know.

Finally found the problem, the fan belt was a red herring!! It turned out to be air getting in where the carbs bolt onto the block, loosened the bolts and reseated both carbs..........all seems good, ticking over like a good un . Got to to run it in now 50mph for like 1000 miles.....bummer
