Hi, Having problems with the std solex carbs on my T2. They seem to keep letting fuel through when the bus is turned off, usually after i have started it and pulled it out the garage then left it for a while. This seems to allow fuel to fill the sump and mix with the oil, it then jams the engine and stops it turning over. I think the fuel must be sitting in a piston and locking the engine. Have to change the oil and mess around with rocking the bus in gear until i can clear the fuel from the piston and it will then start again ok. Anyone experienced this problem before ? The carbs are probably worn so i will probably get them sent off for refurb - any suggestions on a replacement set to keep me going for the 2 months they will be away ? Considering a progressive weber replacement but not sure as they seem to be prone to icing or something ? Any advice or carbs for sale of hire ? Cheers Shaun

not really had that problem, but when you say you have to rock the bus to get it started, is that because it won't turn over? just thinking your starter is sticking. as for the running on, possibly timing problem as in advanced? any one else got any ideas? oh and looby and smokey run a progrsive weber and i think it's ok.

check the fuel cut of valves on the base of the carbs are working. when the ignition is off they shouldn't let fuel thru. I've had no real experience on these engines, but going on type 1's yes carb icing can be a problem but your unlikely to suffer too much in warmer weather, i doubt you'l have heat risers to keep the manifold warm either... which isn't ideal Get a rebuilt kit, or get them done. unless a huge amount of fuel is getting into your cylinders it shouldn't cause any sort of locking up. I'm guessing a very leaky carb could cause that. Maybe fit Weber ICTs or Dellorto FRDs. Or you coiuld go big and fit IDFs or DRLAs. ave a look on egay and see what is on there! Steve

oh and looby and smokey run a progrsive weber and i think it's ok. We do indeed, and it's fab...gets us up hills with ease! Not the fastest for immediate acceleration, but has good pull....I think that has something to do with the carb?

Hi all, Thanks for the responses. I have probably foolishly gone and got some Weber ICT carbs to resolve the problem. Does anyone know a good local place to get em fitted preferably with a rolling road to get them set up proper ? Thanks Shaun
