I have a 1600 twin carb pankake engine in the back of my late bay. Its has original tin ware on both sides of the engine thats all the tin ware it seems to have when its in a squareback. My question is will it be ok with just this tin ware in the bay? or will i need to make some more tin ware up to fit all the way round? surely it should just neen the same as when its in the squareback?? I dont know? i guess thats why im asking mabe someone can help. cheers. ned.

hi mate the tinware needs to be all the way round the engine with a seal to the body or the engine will pull in hot air from the hot zone under the engine instead of just cool air from the air intakes which it needs to cool the engine otherwise you risk cooking the engine

You must run full cooling tinware especially in a bay cos the engines are more stressed than in a beetle due to the extra weight. Karl replaced the engine lid rubber and found by that tiny change alone the engine ran about 10 degrees cooler. Steve
