Hi I was thinking about a VR conversion for my mk2 gti but I have a spare GTi 8v engine knocking about & have seen I could get alot more usable power by supercharging that. Does anyone know the best way to go about lowering the compression ratio or where I can buy a compression plate from??? I have plans for my GL gearbox because it is stronger that a GTi one. It's going to have a short throw & lsd fitted so I shouldnt have any issuse with the extra power If anyone can help me with the issue of getting the compression sorted, it would help alot Cheers, Pete

um, engineering shop, get them to machine you a thicker gasket or compression plate. Or skim the top of your pistons? eitherway, use an Eaton off a new mini cooper s, they seem to work.

Cheers I'll start having an ask around different places abouth getting a thicker gasket or compression plate made. I was thinking of sourcing some 550cc injectors if they would work. Yeah the eaton m45 looks reliable or there's this bbm kit that includes everything you need, g-werks are selling it
What work would I need to do in the way of the ECU or is it a fairly easy bolt on option?

how much bhp do you want ? are you going to run after market ecu? 550cc should see you to about 250bhp chargers are good but you will get far more bhp from a turbo cheers andy

Anything above 200bhp is good as she is just my daily driver, I was thinking about running an aftermarket ecu but not sure what to go for? I know I'd get more from a turbo but cost sort of rules it out, cheers

just a quick update I have rang G-werks & they have a brand new Supercharger kit which should see myself pushing around 300bhp, I was advised to fit some ARBs & Strut braces.... lucky I already have VR6 brakes!! Just got to wait till the end of the month for more info when it's in stock... should go like stink on a GL gearbox with a short shifter

i would say its going to be around 3k for a charger setup hopfully im wrong, you could turbo your car for less than half that and have a stand alone ecu i use DTA but theres loads of others around. most of it boils down to how much you can do yourself, take a look on this site loads of interesting projects www.dubforce.net/forums/not to put a downer on youre plans but 300bhp is a lot for a stock box and clutch to take have a read up on forced induction its very a interesting subject and you will learn loads have fun cheers andy

cool cheers, yeah I found that site earlier today & was on it for hours. I've started looking back at VR6 & 20vT conversions, so I'm really confused as what engine to do now :S

Yeah I think that is the best option as I can run it on uprated cams & would be a good base to work from. Also I have VR6 running gear on the car already so should be alot easier to put in. Thanks for your help to stop me being indecisive pal
