ok ive got a clock instead of a tachometer i have got a new dash from a gti (wel i need to go pick it up) and i want to know A. how to go about fitting the tachometer and B can i just change over the dials or do i need to swap the hole thing over. cheers

The dash should fit OK, the wiring loom is fairly standard too, any parts need to fit the rev counter would be secondary anyway, as this is an add on component. But I'll check in the Haynes to see were the feed for the Tacho comes from. Its normally off the ignition system (the coil) or the alternator itself, so you may need a couple of other bits, I'm not sure without checking, but there are ways around if need be. |

I've been over to See Big El and some of the other SCD members in Northampton tonight, have had a chat with Elliot about your problem, I've found out that there may be another complication. Late 89-90 Vw change the type of connectors used on there wiring looms so that they became all standard on VAG manufactured vehicles. Whether this will effect your project I'm not sure but just check when you get the dash, and clocks.

Yep as I thought the wiring for the techo is off the coil, Have you got the Haynes for the Golf, if not let me know and I'll dig out the wiring schematics if that will help.

I can't do much this week, as I'm working away for a couple of days, then I've got an M.O.D. contract to complete. So end of the week/ weekend looks possible at the moment . |

wicked , weel i need to get hold of it as things carry on getting in the way of going to get it , at this ate it will be the end of the month as thats when i get paid , which means dash for me pints for you |
