Replacement oil filter element VW part# 056 115 561 G for use with MK2 GTi's A part from the resent work I've carried out on my car I've also change the oil and filter element. The new genuine filter (above part number) was found to be defective and not functioning correctly when fitted on the car. The fault was due too the pressure spring and plunger unit mounted inside the oil filter, not being central inside its' housing. Thus not opening and closing smoothly during the operation of the engine. Things too lookout for are.1/ change in the performance of the car. 2/ A loud metallic "Clicking" noise coming from around the front of the car about halfway down the side of the engine block. This sound can also clearly be heard from underneath front bumper near too the sump and the oil filter element. If this is the case the pressure spring is catching on the threaded spigot shaft, which is the mounting point for the oil filter,on to the side of the engine block, just underneath the oil cooler. So I would recommend checking any new filter element when ether purchasing a VW or aftermarket product, to make sure that the plunger and spring assembly inside the filter are mount correctly in the centre of the element and that the spring is not twisted or deformed. If this is not the case, I would ask for another element with correctly aligned pressure spring unit. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
