I have worked on two Golf s today, mine and Andy's. ;D Went to Higham (not aloud too say the R word) to look into the problem of 1/ the leak and 2/ the heater matrix not working. Spent a few hours there but due too parts problems the job has not been completed. Next add some Wynn's valve lifter conditioner too my golf to see if this would help with the tappet issue it didn't help, it solved it ;D. The base problem was caused by the last oil change, and filter problem that I had at the time due to a defective genuine VAG filter. Away the valve train had been playing up since this time, and although I tried several different solutions it was not getting any better. I knew the route cause was an oil blockage issue or something similar and not tappet wear, so I thought this was worth a try first, before taking far more drastic action. I know there not many peeps with hydraulic tappets/ or lifters but if you have a similar problem then let me know and I'll tell which is the right stuff too get, as there are two different products made by the same company.

Yep I don't think you're got to worry about them matey on your Bug, technically they call them Hydraulic lifters these days, but VAG call them Hydraulic tappets so tappets they are. Oh btw Steve what the correct VW part # for the wochacallit! as its missing off my Golf, I already have a thingamebob, to fit to it so just need that plus the dobreewhatsit and my car will be complete. Plus a new foofer valve, and self confusing beerbox if anyone has one spare. ;D

After yesterdays attempt to fix the golf came to a halt when I had to order a few parts from autohaus, I picked up the hose and cam guard today. I fitted the cam guard, which was a bit of a bugger to fit without removing the intake pipe from the inlet manifold and air cleaner. Fitted the new piece of water pipe, which was also a right arse to get in place , as it was a lot tighter than the old, leaking, split hose. Then I took the car off the axle stands, and noticed the car was sitting more level than usual, wasn't till sometime later I realised some wally had left a washing up bowl under me car, which was leveling out the wonky suspension. (That wally was me) After refilling the water system, and running her up to temp checking for any leaks, all seemed well, but still no bloody heating! Removed two valves from the water system , and replaced them with short lengths of copper pipe, hoping the valves were the problem, and not the heater matrix. We have heat!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Fixed somethings and have broke others ;D I been having a problem with the screen washer bottle, as this has been leaking for sometime. So I removed the bottle and flushed it through and scrubbed out the inside. This was because it was all full of slime , and other nasty looking muck. I don't know what is was and to be honest I don't really want too know, probably some new alien life form . After I replaced the bottle I thought I would check my tire pressures. While maneuvering the car onto the path so the air line from the compressor would fit the valves I hit the low wall out side the front of the house , so tomorrow I will be repairing (with Duck tape, Yer, right, if you believe that you'll believe anything ) the rear bumper again, as this was already damaged by the previous owner. Plus had a pleasant drive over to Ashley this afternoon to drop off the steel, so that Chris can make up the feet for my Singer 45K58, and I glad to say all that Tappets were behaving themselves very nicely no nasty rattles, and sounds sweet as a nut.
