Well today i attacked the golf, removed some screws but 2 pulleys remain firmly stuck, then i replaced the metal water pipe.
then i went to toughsteves and had a spin in lulus now fixed beetle. (steve's magic fingeres sorting the old girl out!) (primrose, not lulu) THen after deciding that 40odd quid for a valve spring compressor was stupid i decided to fabricate a rudimentarry one. so steve did all the wpork according to my plans and soon, we were popping valves all over the place. (then puting them all in labelled bags- for you nige!)
THen i wire brushed all the valves to shinyness and will spend the evening lapping them in!
Hopefully steve will pop up pics later!
thanks steve for having me and being a very able and willing assistant. we even managed a quick burn in his bus!!! WHOOP!

I'll get all sorted as much as i can and ask you over 1 evening! never know i might even get t running for saturday! no i've not got the crankshaft pullly/vibration damper off, i removed the 4 hex bolts and it aint having it! I tried a 22mm soket on the big nut but no luck, it rotated the engine til i pt it in gear then it just made the car go backwards! any ideas? s

well, i've now lapped in all the valves, got a very sexy mating face oin both valves and seats, i redid all of them using the soon to be famous, S+S valve-compressor tool mk1 and then to put them back in the S+S V-C T mk2 (same as the mk1 but thinker metal and folded not cut (for steve) it worked a treat and cost zilch, much betta than £40!!!!!
i've got a few fotos, i'll stick em up as and when! s
